Description

INTRODUCTION The chemotherapy or the use of chemical therapeutic agents the anthelmintics, is the main sure and very effective tool if used judiciously. It remains the single, most effective, efficient and inexpensive method to control the parasitic infections. It has been used to yield fruitful results because the metabolic pathways of parasites provide, vulnerable points of anthelmintics activity (Von Brand, 1983). The initial site of action of anthelmintics is unknown for several drugs. Oxyclozanide is a safe and effective flukicide administered to cattle, buffaloes, sheep and goats for the treatment and control of fascioliasis and paramphistomiasis. The acanthocephalan parasite, Pallisentis nagpurensis is mainly an aneorobic parasite, it gains energy through glycolytic pathway and involves in anaerobic generation of ATP. Hence, the author made an attempt to investigate the biochemical effects of tolzan (Oxyclozanide, Hoechst chem. Bombay) on Pallisentis nagpurensis, parasitising the fresh water fish, Channa striatus. The study has been made by taking into consideration the alterations in the glycogen, glucose, proteins, aminoacids, activity levels of LDH, SDH, MDH, phosphatases, ATPase, GDH and transaminases during tolzan treatment.
